February Wrap-Up 2020

Books Read!

Hello BookNerds! So, this month I managed to stick to my tbr (very surprising, I know) but I did not manage to complete it, unfotunately. However, I did a fair amount of reading and will continue the rest of the tbr in April since I have to do an eARC/blogtour month in March.

This month I read – The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood; The Hidden King, by E.G. Radcliff; The Tattooist Of Auschwitz, by Heather Morris; Red Rising, by Pierce Brown; You Let Me In, by Camilla Bruce; The Silent Treatment, by Abbie Greaves; The Glass Hotel, by Emily St John Mandel; A Darker Shade Of Magic, by V.E. Schwab. So I read 7 and a half books this month, I haven’t completed ADSOM yet but will do alongside my eARC’s next month and the rest of the series in April.

Book Reviews Published!

The Hidden King, by E.G. Radcliff (Author kindle copy)– ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – This was a very interesting fantasy given t me by the author in exchange for an honest review. The fantasy is based on Celtic mythology, that of the fae and of Aed. The story is full of magic, brilliant world-building and excellent character relationships. In this book we follow Aed and the family he has built as he tries to escape a tragedy and build a better life.

The Tattooist Of Auschwitz, by Heather Morris (own copy) – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A devastating historical-fiction that follows the story of Lale and his imprisonment in Auschwitz. A truly heart-breaking story that shows the emotional impact of this awful and horrifying time. This is a difficult story that focuses on one man and his own personal experience.

Grace Is Gone, by Emily Elgar (eARC Netgalley/Little Brown) – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – A heart-breaking and devastating mystery/thriller full of twists and murder. When Grace, a chronically ill and disabled child is kidnapped after her mother is murdered, the whole town is in disarray. Based on a true story, this story is full of unexpected and horrifying twists.

The Lies Of Locke Lamora, by Scott Lynch (own copy) – ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨(4.75) – An excellent fantasy with extraordinary world-builidng and charming characters. Locke, a phenomenal thief and conman is in the middle of an elaborate and illegal con, he also happens to be the figure of a grossly innacurate local legend. Lockke has a penchant for danger and when the Capa, the man who runs the gangs, is in danger Locke finds himself unwittingly drawn into the plot, alongside his crew.

Pet Sematary, by Stephen King (own copy) – ⭐⭐⭐⭐ – An interesting and terrifying horror. This was a horrifying story of grief and how far a person would go to bring back the ones they love. In a dark and creepy story of the dead coming back, you begin to wonder if dead really is better.

The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood (Own copy) – ⭐⭐⭐- Interesting and chilling, this speculative fiction is incredibly popular and I can see why. Some elemnts of this book disappointed me but overall I can see why it is so loved and talked about. In a world where woman are expected to breed and have been stripped of their rights, can you even fight back?
