The Guilty Reader #BookTag

Hiya BookNerds! So I was tagged by ProseandPancakes blog – a very awesome blog so please check it out! (Who saw it on A Little Haze Book Blog – another wonderful blog you should try to look at! ) This is the guilty readers booktag and it looks so fun, and a little difficult! So let’s see how guilty I am as a reader!

1. Have you ever re-gifted a book you’ve been gifted?

No, I love being gifted books as it is a little part of the person who gifted it! Usually they are books they loved so I like to keep them because they are important. I even keep books I did not particularly like because I can then share them with my siblings or go back to them at another time to see if my tastes have changed! I will usually just buy another copy if I want to gift it to somebody – that way I keep the original gift but also share the book!

2. Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

No, because I worry someone will ask me a question about it and I won’t be able to answer it! Besides, if I haven’t read it then my friends will usually let me borrow a copy, recommend it to me and I will buy it, or eventually give it to me as a gift so can experience it!

3. Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

… So I try not to do this because it has been lent to me on a basis of trust BUT I have accidentally kept a book I borrowed because I took so long to get around to reading it and eventually forgot I even had it-by the time I see the book again it is too late to return it 😳🙈 though I do often try.

4. Have you ever read a series out of order?

Not an entire series but I have a later instalment before realising it is part of a series, and then end up hunting down the rest of the books so I can read it in order. I actually did this recently, I requested an eARC of The Secret Chapter by Genevieve Cogman but did not realise it was the 6th book in the series, so now I am waiting until after Christmas to buy the rest!

5. Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

Not intentionally? Unless they have 100% reassured me they will never read it. I try not to spoil books for people so that they will read it too!

6. Have you ever dog-eared a book?

… yes – I’M SORRY- during my A-Levels I often dog-eared pages but only because we had to write in the books anyway, the only other time I dog-ear books are if they are second-hand and have already been dog-eared!

7. Have you ever told someone you don’t own the books when you do?

No, because I often receive books as gifts and would end up with doubles! Though I have said I have lost said book after reading it so that they didn’t ask to borrow it (in my defence the friend who would ask to borrow my books use to give them back in an absolute state, broken, ripped, creased etc…).

8. Have you ever skipped a chapter or a section of the book?

Yes, I try not to do this, and never normally do, but I recently read IT, by Stephen King and skipped ‘that’ scene – simply because it made me uncomfortable to read particularly as the characters involved were children, but also because I don’t really like scenes of that type in general.

9. Have you ever bad-mouthed a book you actually liked?

NOPE, I LOVE my books and I will gush about them to my friends whether they like them or not because my books are a part of me! I could never dishonour a dear dear book by saying I didn’t enjoy it when I did.

10. Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

No, there isn’t much point really for me. I read the whole Twilight series when they first came out, and while I dislike them now I still acknowledge I read them because it means that I can give an informed reason as to why I didn’t like them. Again, I also try not to lie about what I have read because I have bookish friends and we often buy books for each other and share books we loved and talk about books we didn’t.

I suppose my answers make me a little guilty as a reader! But, not as guilty as I thought I would be 🤣. What about you, are you a guilty reader? Have you ever kept a borrowed book or lied about what you have read? Let me know your level of guilt! Happy Reading BookNerds! 😊💜📚
