What has been your favourite read of 2021 so far?

OKAY so I was incredibly lucky to get an eARC of The Jasmine Throne, by Tasha Suri and an eARC of She Who Became The Sun, by Shelley Parker-Chan and both of these books were EXTRAORDINARY reads that they are both top favourites for 2021 so far! My full reviews for both will drop closer to the release dates but both books are 5 star reads that are honestly amazing.

The Jasmine Throne, by Tasha Suri – is an Indian inspired fantasy that follows Priya, a maidservant with a dangerous secret, and Malini, a princess imprisoned by her cruel dictator of a brother. This book has everything and is full of magic, tension, angst and epic characters. (Rep- f/f, poc cast.)

She Who Became The Sun, by Shelley Parker-Chan – is a Chinese inspired fantasy that follows Zhu whose fate tells the tale of someone who will become nothing. In an attempt to avoid this fate, Zhu becomes a monk and finds herself taking risk after risk to become someone great. With war on the horizon, Zhu must learn to balance on the line of greatness and avoid the fate of becoming nothing. (Rep – Genderfluid/non-binary/genderqueer, lgbtq+, poc cast).

What genre(s) would you like to read less of?

… none! My goal is usually to read more of other genres rather than less ๐Ÿ˜‚ and I tend to just not pick up genres that don’t interest me.

Whatโ€™s a book that you wish you could read again for the first time?

All of my favourites! This is a hard question because everytime I read and love a book I wish I could read it again for the first time! But for now I’ll say The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern or The Starless Sea, by Erin Morgenstern – they are both so atmospheric and magical that I would love to feel that initial awe again!

What trope do you wish youโ€™d stop seeing/reading in books?

Insta-love. —> I absolutely hate this trope… it is unrealistic and boring. Can you have insta-attraction, yes. But insta-love is a step to far. Give me the tension, angst, slow-burn love! Friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, give me any other kind of love! I find it too difficult to ship characters who fall in love immediately because there was no build up to the relationship.

If you could choose for any book or series to be adapted for TV/movie, which would it be?

We Ride The Storm/We Lie With Death (The Reborn Empire Series), by Devin Madson. I usually dislike screen adaptations because they are usually wrong. However, if it was done properly, I would love to see this series on the screen in the form of a TV series. This book series has an epic scope, complex politics, freaky and creepy magic, fragile kingdoms, exiled warriors, reluctant alliances and brilliant action scenes. It would undoubtedly be an extraordinary show.

Can you describe your current read in three words?

Brilliant, Creative, Adventurous!

How long have you been blogging and what makes you keep blogging?

I have been blogging for about a year and a half now?? I think ๐Ÿ˜‚. I keep blogging because of the community! I started blogging because I loved books and wanted to share my opinions on the books I loved with other people who were equally as passionate. But once I became a member of the book community it made blogging much more fun and comforting! Everyone is so supportive in the community and that made me continue blogging. Everyone who interacts with me is fantastic (A special shout out to The TWR gang๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿฅฐ) but every single blogger who comments/likes/or chats with me is so lovely and it always brightens up my day!

Would you survive in the world of your last read? (For curiosityโ€™s sake, what was the world?)

So my last read was Empire Of Sand, by Tasha Suri and is set in the Ambhan Empire. I’m not gonna lie, I’d probably die pretty quickly in this world… I’d want to help Mehr (the mc) and Amun and, well, it would probably cost me my life because I highly doubt I could escape and survive in the desert sooo…

What hyped book do you think is overrated?

Ok, please don’t come for me! BUT I do think The Cruel Prince, by Holly Black is overrated. HOWEVER, I did enjoy this book, and I do love the portrayal of the fae in it but personally I feel the series gets better as it goes on and Book 1 gets a little overhyped considering the plots of book 2 and 3 are much better. I did actually quite love this series and will likely re-read it in the future but book 1 was just a good read.

What underrated book do you think deserves more hype?

The Hidden King, by EG Radcliff!! – This book is amazing and definitely deserves more hype! It is a gritty Celtic inspired fantasy full of rich detail and has a brilliant found-family theme/trope running through it.

If you could gift one book for anyone to read, which would it be and why?

Any of my favourites really. I love gifting books so any that I loved that I think the person i’m gifting it to will love I’ll share! (Though I do try to push Pride and Prejudice on everyone but oh well)!
