#TTT, Top Ten Popular Tropes I Love!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish in 2010 and was moved to Artsy Reader Girl in 2018. Today I have decided to list ten tropes I love! Are they overused? Yes. But will I forever read them and love them? YES. I am a sucker for certain overused tropes, and I don’t even care because they are so brilliant, so let’s dive in!

Enemies To Lovers!

Ok, this is one that is widely loved, and totally worth being overused becuase yes, I want to see two people with a seething hate for each other slowly fall in love and accidentally admit it in the middle of an argument or a fight. Yes I want to see them work through their anger and it slowly dawn on them that ‘oh no’ they are now in love. YES I want to see this because it is hilarious, it is full of tension and it is just pure gold. I blame Pride and Prejudice for starting me on this type of trope and every time I read it my love for it just grows even more.

Enemies To Friends!

I adore enemies to lovers but also?? Enemies to friends is just pure gold! Watching two people who hate each other slowly begin to trust one and other and become friends who would die for each other, go out of their way to protect the other, YES. I love it so much, Legolas and Gimli are a great example, and we totally need more of this in fiction because it is just so perfect.

Evil Villain Become Sarcastic Ally

Do I love to read a book where the villain is forced to work with the hero(es) and eventually becomes the sarcastic, slightly volatile companion who is no longer feared and so resorts to sarcastic remarks aimed at said companions? Yes, yes I do. Unfortunately, I see this more on TV than in books, but when I do read it it is just amazing! Crowley and Loki are notable charaters that this happens with and I love it so much.

Produces 100000+ Hidden Weapons From Themselves!

Do I even need to explain this one? I mean, there is nothing better than watching an enemy or a hero walk into a room and remove a ridiculous amount of weaponry that there is no possible way they were actually concealing. It is just an amazing and funny thing to watch and I will never ever get bored of it!

Grumpy + Reluctant Saviour

I absolutely adore heroes that are grumpy and don’t really want to save the world because ‘why me?’ but does it anyway because they kinda live there and want to continue doing so. It is great comedy and can be an amazing way to have the character develop, it is also a refreshing break from the self-rightous heroes.

Murderous Cinnamon Roll

Characters who look adorable and non-threatening, and act so sweet and kind to everyone but are absolutely murderous and deadly and won’t hesitate to end you?? This is an amazing trope and I never want it to end because I will always love these characters. I love my perceptions being warped!

Stoic And Scary Character Being Overly Protective Of Specific Character

I also adore characters that look deadly, are deadly and are super stoic and scary but absolutely adore a specific character and so help you if you even look at them wrong…these characters are always one of my favourites because yeah they are probably going to kill you, but they have a heart of gold for their friends/loved one.

Main Characters Friends Are Sarcastic/Witty Mess With Main Character

Main characters are usually heroes of some sort, and can become a little selfish or big-headed, this is easily rectified by giving them friends who will pummel the main character with thir sarcasm and wit, usually keeping them down to earth and I love it! Friends who do this will always be amazing charcters. Ron and Hermione are good at this, in the books more than the movies, and Harry also gives as good as he gets. Other series may have better examples but Harry Potter does feature this to some extent and it is awesome.

Clever Evil Villians

Villains who are actually clever and manipulative are THE BEST. Moriarty? An amazing villain, despicable and cruel but a great character overall. The Joker? Seems insane but is very clever in his schemes making him a terrifying villain with a sweet mix of crazy and clever (though he disputes his insanity as super sanity but ya know what I mean.) Hannibal Lector? Horrifying and murderous and incredibly clever, this just makes villains even more terrifying and it is why I love their characters!

Feminine Female Heroes Who Are Underestimated But Would Kill You In A Heartbeat

This is one we do not see enough of and it is one I love and want to be more present. Give me more feminine female heroes who are equally deadly and clever because it is awesome and you cannot convince me otherwise! Who cares if she is wearing a dress, she will still spin kick you into oblivion and continue on with her day.

I love all of these tropes, overused or not, and they will forever be my weakness in fiction. I hope you enjoyed this TTT Post!

So there are ten tropes I love and will never tire of! What is your favourite trope? Let me know! Happy Reading BookNerds! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œπŸ“š
